Director of Marketing

PlexTrac — a fast growing start-up looking to scale its team and platform capabilities — is seeking a Director of Marketing to lead and grow its marketing function from infancy to maturity. This role is responsible for building the company brand, positioning the company as a leader in the cybersecurity industry, and supporting aggressive  scaling through visioning, developing, and nurturing a PlexTrac community of users.

The PlexTrac platform enables the automated reporting and tracking of cybersecurity risks and allows for enhanced collaboration across the enterprise. ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Director of Marketing will be responsible for growing, managing, and leveraging the PlexTrac Marketing Team to develop, implement, and execute strategic marketing plans in order to attract potential customers and retain existing ones. This position is vital to maturing the PlexTrac brand identity to reach our vision of becoming the mission critical platform for every security team and service provider, regardless of team size or program maturity. 

The functional areas that this leader will be accountable for include the following: 

  • Strategic leadership — Serve as a member of the PlexTrac leadership team. Leverage the Marketing Department to meet the strategic goals of the organization and support the work of Sales, Customer Success, and Engineering in doing their work. Advocate for the needs of the Marketing Department and advise the leadership team on best practices.
  • Team building and management — Serve as the marketing operational leader; evolve and support the growth of individual team members, ensure team progression towards overall business goals. Identify areas of need to meet strategic initiatives and expand the team with the appropriate talent to do so. 
  • Marketing and sales lead funnel management — Investigate new sources of competitive and industry information to shape customer personas and identify opportunities within the industry for advertising and lead generation. Lead the development of marketing plans working closely with the Sales Team, Success Team, Engineering Team and leadership to create an effective and efficient marketing strategy focused on growing brand awareness, generating leads, supporting customer growth and retention efforts. Increase outbound marketing opportunities while supporting and enhancing existing inbound strategies.
  • Industry thought leadership and brand positioning — Design and contribute to thought leadership programs, messaging, content marketing, and communication to position the company as an industry leader. Research, conceptualize, create, and implement marketing programs that promote the PlexTrac brand identity and support strategic goals. Communicate brand strategy and guidelines internally and with third parties when needed. 
  • The PlexTrac community of users and prospects — Identify places and strategies for building a PlexTrac brand community. Guide the growth and fostering of that community leveraging key internal constituents and external influencers.
  • Marketing data and analytics — Understand key marketing performance metrics and develop and execute measurable lead generation strategies to drive revenue through sales. Forecast, measure, analyze, and report on the impact of marketing activities on sales pipeline, revenue, and sales cycle length. Identify short-term and long-term scheduling, budget, and resource needs, including the development and management of an annual marketing budget.

WHAT DEFINES SUCCESS IN THE SHORT-TERM? EXPECTATIONS IN THE FIRST YEAR INCLUDE:

  • Developing a marketing strategic plan for scaling growth to $10 – $20 million in annual revenue
  • Operationalizing a lead funnel that results in at least 50 percent of qualified leads for the sales team
  • Formalizing the PlexTrac brand identity across all external and internal vectors by refining and implementing the PlexTrac Brand Book
  • Maximizing current tooling (Hubspot) and team members (2) to establish processes and cycles aligned with industry best practices
  • Identifying and filling talent gaps on the Marketing Team necessary for achieving strategic goals

WHAT DEFINES SUCCESS IN THE LONG-TERM? EXPECTATIONS FOR THE LONG-TERM INCLUDE:

  • Nurturing and maintaining a lead funnel that results in at least 30 percent of sales annually
  • Solidifying the PlexTrac brand identity and its position in the marketplace as the premier product in its class in the industry
  • Establishing and nurturing a vibrant PlexTrac community of users and followers

EXPERIENCE OF THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

  • 7 to 10 years of marketing or communications experience 
  • Prior experience with marketing or sales in information security or technology industries 
  • Track record of successful experience growing and scaling a marketing program for a fast-growing technology startup
  • Mastery of B2B marketing tactics and techniques—including content marketing, lead generation and nurturing, social media marketing, ad management, etc.—and demonstrable success leveraging them to increase brand awareness and market share
  • Experience tailoring B2B marketing strategies from both bottom up (appealing to the practitioner or user) and top down (appealing to purchaser or C-suite) approaches
  • Proven experience managing a marketing team, including delegating tasks, measuring performance, communicating with teammates and leadership, coordinating with sales and customer success teams, and reaching goals 

EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND AND PROFESSIONAL CHARACTERISTICS OF AN IDEAL CANDIDATE

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Public Relations, Communications, Business Administration, Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field or equivalent in professional experience or achievements. Master’s degree preferred. 
  • Strong project and budgetary management skills, outstanding organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrated planning, budgeting, and presentation skills with C-level executives
  • Ability to collaborate and coordinate with people in a variety of roles and departments
  • Servant leadership mentality
